Nowadays, Halliday’s role-playing linguistic theory is widely applied in the analysis and critique of literary texts. In 1985, he and his wife, Roghayeh Hassan, proposed the theory of "text coherence." The semantic, verbal, syntactic, and logical connection of the components of the text was called "coherence" and their general harmony in the vertical axis was called "coherence". The theory is based on words and meanings which proves how coherent literary works are in a scientific way. According to this theory, the cohesive elements of the text are divided into three categories including grammatical, lexical, and conjunctional. Besides, it has sub-categories such as reference, deletion, repetition, consonance, and relational device. Mastering the Persian language and familiarity with its words and capacities, Sadie has used coherent techniques in his poetic and prose stories in a desirable way. The cohesive elements in his long anecdotes are more striking, since coherence is much more necessary in these anecdotes. The present study aims to analyze Sadie’s tricks in using cohesive elements in his two long anecdotes including Golestan (Chapter 3, the story of a young boxer) and Bustan (Chapter One, the story of prudence and delay in politics). The findings reveal that Sadie paid attention to the cohesive elements of the text, especially in long anecdotes.
