Introduction
Seeking justice and fighting oppression have been two of the most important demands and ideals of people who have sought justice throughout the history of mankind. Therefore, throughout human history, many have risen up against oppression and endured numerous hardships in this pursuit. The political turbulence in Iran during the 7th and 8th centuries, such as the Mongol invasion, left a deep impact on Persian literature. As a result of this invasion, undeserving rulers came to power, who brutalized the oppressed and brought about deprivation, poverty, chaos, anarchy, and expulsion. The social situation of this period represents one of the darkest times in the history of Iran in terms of socio-political and moral issues. Farsi-speaking poets of the era reflected on moral issues in the realm of "protest poetry" within the context of the prevailing political-social conditions.
One such poet of this period is Saif Farghani, who, because of the responsibility he felt within himself and the injustices he witnessed in the socio-political structure of his era, did not remain indifferent and reacted to them. He is a poet who wrote the most striking critical poems. In his works, he scandalized the tyrants and oppressors of his time with a sharp and stinging tone. He wrote not only with the beauty of language and imaginative poetry, but also turned his pen to the pains of society and the oppression of the lords of power, incompetent officials, hypocritical Sufis and hermits, and corrupt marketers and mystics. The variety of critical issues allowed him not to limit himself only to political matters, but also to address socio-moral concerns, thus opening a wide range of topics for critical literature. Saif's critical poems are thought-provoking and revolutionary, motivated by a rebellion against the "lack of justice" in his society. Therefore, his poetry should be considered a mirror of rebellion and ideals in the history of Persian literature, making him one of the most important social critics of his time.
Method
This article deals with concepts such as anti-oppression and seeking justice in Saif Farghani's poems by using a descriptive-analytical approach. The main goal of this research is to understand these concepts in the opinions and thoughts of the poet, as well as his methods and solutions in his critical poems.
Results
Ideals such as seeking justice, freedom, and liberation from tyrannical oppression are prevalent in the poetry of Saif Farghani. A key part of his work is criticizing autocratic rulers, corrupt judges, incompetent officials, flattering poets, and hypocritical ascetics and Sufis, who were the very people responsible for social issues such as injustice, a lack of freedom and security, and moral decay. In these poems, Farghani tries to raise public awareness about oppression, showing readers that such conditions cannot be tolerated. Furthermore, he acknowledges and gives voice to the people's suffering, attempting to awaken dormant consciences and invite them to stand against tyranny. He uses an eloquent yet sharp tone as well as literary methods of protest such as simile, metaphor, and irony to create poetic images and demonstrate that literature can be used as a powerful tool against tyrannical rulers.
Conclusion
Through research on Saif Farghani's poems dealing with concepts such as oppression and justice, we concluded that he criticized social groups like autocratic rulers, incompetent officials, and corrupt marketers and judges. These groups were responsible for social issues such as a lack of justice, moral decay, and a lack of freedom and social security. In Farghani's poems, they are criticized through strong poetic imagery, eloquent language, and a harsh, biting tone, which at times was filled with advice, admonition, and hope. Farghani envisioned a society where all people enjoy equal rights and, by doing so, urging his audience to fight against them. Overall, Saif Farghani's critical poems can be viewed as a historical document showing the importance of the struggle to achieve true justice. Without a doubt, he is one of the most critical and knowledgeable poets of his era.
