Among the significant themes in the Masnavi, which is sometimes discussed independently and at other times in relation to the body and physical form, or within the context of discussions on form and meaning or appearance and inner reality, is the concept of "Soul" (Jān). It plays a prominent role in Rumi's mystical worldview. Due to the importance of this term and subject, this research aims to adopt a descriptive-analytical method. Initially, it will explore the various meanings of the term "Jān" in the Masnavi. Subsequently, by relying on the situational and thematic context, as well as intra-textual clues within the verses, and by collating Rumi's scattered statements throughout the Masnavi, a comprehensive picture of the types of "Soul" and their characteristics will be presented. Finally, the relationship between the soul and the body will be examined. Through this investigation, it was found that in the Masnavi, apart from enumerating various types of soul with different degrees and capabilities, Rumi also attributes a multifaceted and polysemous application to the term "Jān," employing it in various meanings such as: Spirit (Rūḥ), Divine Saints, the Divine Essence, the Heart (Dil), Intellect ('Aql), etc. Furthermore, it was concluded that Rumi attributes distinct attributes and characteristics to the soul, including: vastness and limitlessness, not being corporeal in origination, possessing a sound of divine revelation, permanence and eternity, being inconceivable and beyond comprehension, being of the Throne ('Arshī), and being free from any form of gender attribution.
